  • Rudi’s Original Stroopwafels: located within the Albert Cuypmarkt, this stall makes fresh stroopwafels.
  • Ponte Arcari: teeny tiny Italian restaurant along the canal, great food & ambiance. Recommend making a reservation.
  • Ivy & Bros: great spot for an easy lunch on the canal.
  • Cafe Thijssen: recommended to me by a local and did not disappoint! Came here in the afternoon for a cocktail & snack & totally felt like a local. So cute, chill, welcoming & fun!
  • LOCALS All Day Brunch: super cute cafe/ restaurant for breakfast or lunch. Close to museum square.
  • Foodhallen: indoor open air market with tons of food stalls ranging from all kinds of cuisines.
  • PANCAKES Amsterdam: serves yummy Dutch pancakes & close to the Anne Frank house perfect for an early morning museum entry time.

Must Do Activities:

  • Albert Cuypmarkt: walk around the most famous market in Amsterdam for a true taste of Dutch culture.
  • The Heineken Experience: explore the first Heineken brewery that is now an immersive museum. The price of your ticket includes 2 beers that you get to enjoy at the end of the museum. Super fun, the staff is awesome & a great place to meet other young travelers!
  • Van Gogh Museum: buy your ticket in advance!! This museum houses the largest collection of Van Gogh artwork & offers tons of unique information about his life.
  • Anne Frank House: buy your ticket months in advance! This museum is dedicated to Jewish wartime diarist Anne Frank. You can visit the annex that housed her & her family in secret during WW2.
  • Canal Tour: this is a must! cruise down the main canals of Amsterdam & learn fun facts about the history of the city!
  • Noordermarkt: every Monday & Saturday an organic food market & flea market take place here.
  • Bloemenmarkt: the only floating flower market in the world.
  • Red Light Secrets Museum: learn about the history of Amsterdam’s sex work industry.
  • Keukenhof: if you’re visiting during Tulip/ flower season this incredible botanical garden should be on your list of places to go. Located about 30 minutes outside of Amsterdam, Keukenhof is one of the worlds largest flower gardens and is sooo beautiful when in bloom.

Must See Sights & Places:

  • Vondelpark: huge, beautiful park. Highly recommend renting bikes & biking through here.
  • Dancing houses: historical houses that are crooked and appear to dance located along the canal on Damrak street.
  • Begijhof: a secret & secluded group of historic buildings built around a courtyard & garden. The buildings are now home to a group of religious women who live in a community & have taken vows of chastity.
  • De Wallen aka Red Light District: area where prostitutes are on display as well as casinos, sex shows & things of that nature. Interesting to walk a few streets at night when the red lights are turned on.
  • Negen Straatjes: meaning 9 streets, this neighborhood is known for great shopping, monuments & beautiful canals.
  • Jordaan: cutest neighborhood and so Amsterdam. Lots of young people, restaurants, historic buildings, pristine canals & a local vibe. This is where the Anne Frank House & Noordermarkt are.
